Albert MARQUET The Port of Beirut

Watercolor on paper, signed “Marquet”, located “Beirut” and dated “1927” lower right.

18 cm x 25,3 cm

An observer of the movement of ports, bridges and banks, Albert Marquet represents here the port of Quarantine (Karantina) in Beirut with, in the background, Mount Sannine. Less common than the views of Algiers, the watercolors of the 1927 cruise are, by their format, their technique and their speed of execution, works very representative of his travel diaries where Marquet achieves by resorting to a minimal expression to show the essential.
